These grants are destined to encourage the development of Korean studies overseas by organizing or by individuals, encouraging the study of all aspects of Korean literature in particular, thus making Korean culture better known throughout the world.

Categories :

Research in Korean studies / Scholarships for students majoring in Korean studies / Translation, publication, and acquisition of books related to Korean studies / Academic symposia on topics related to Korean studies / Travel abroad by academics specializing in Korean studies / Research and activities in other areas connected with Korean studies

Selection:
Applications are received from the research institutions and individuals involved in Korean studies abroad; applications will be screened for approval by a specially constituted committee. Priority is given to non-Korean involved in the propagation of Korean literature and the promotion of Korean studies overseas.

Schedule: Application received: early May - late August / Screening: Septemberr / Announcement of grants: late October / Awards ceremony: early November

The 10th (2003)

In 2003, the Daesan Foundation supported 13 projects with grants that totalled 110 million won, including such works as the translation of "A Lonely Room" by SHIN Kyung-Suk into Japanese.

A total of 43 applications arrived at the Foundation from research institutes and individuals involved in Korean studies abroad. These applications were screened for a month for approval by a special committee. Priority is given to non-Koreans involved in the research of Korean literature and the promotion of Korean literature studies overseas.

The 9th (2002)

In 2002, the Daesan Foundation supported 14 projects with grants that totalled 115 million won, including such works as the translation of "Our Twisted Hero" by YI Mun-Yol into Bulgarian.

A total of 38 applications arrived at the Foundation from research institutes and individuals involved in Korean studies abroad. These applications were screened for approval by a special committee for a month. Priority is given to non-Koreans involved in the research of Korean literature and the promotion of Korean literature studies overseas.
