The Daesan Literary Awards for Young Writers
are intended to contribute to the refinement of the sensitivities
of young people and to their overall development. The awards also
aims at the discovery and training of those who play a leading role
in tomorrow's Korean literatur

Applications
:
With the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Education
and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, middle and high school
students are invited to submit manuscripts of their own creative
writing; those showing outstanding talent are selected to attend
Literary camps for the young held with the participation of
noted writers. Those judged most deserving receive scholarships
which are total 60 million won.
- The
results of the screening of the submitted works are combined
with writing competitions held during the Literary Camps to
determine the winners of the Awards(Grand Prize, Gold Prize,
Silver Prize, Bronze Prize) which are given in four separate
categories: Middle School Poetry and Fiction, High School Poetry
and Fiction. The middle school students receiving the Grand
Prize in each section for the outstanding literary quality of
their works are each awarded a scholarship through high school
and the high school students through university. They are encouraged
to become professional writers.
- The
award-winning works in each category are published in a widely-distributed
anthology, while award-winners are form an ongoing association
and to publish a review designed to help them continue to develop
their literary skills and keep in close touch with one another.

The 11th (2003) 
From
the 1,576 students who applied, the Foundation selected 37 winners and granted a
total of 80 million won to them. High school students SONG Seom-Byeol in the poetry
section and JANG Yu-Mi in the fiction section were awarded the Grand Prize and
received a scholarship for two years of university. The Foundation also selected
four students for the Gold Prize, ten for the Silver Prize, and twenty one for the
Bronze Prize. These students received scholarships of five hundred thousand won
to one million won each.
A
Literary Camp was held at Kyobo Life Insurance Company's Human Resources Development
Institution from August 5 to 7. During the Camp, students and noted writers screened
their works attended various cultural programs such as a literary lecture, an athletics
meeting, movie screenings, etc.
The
award-winning works in each category were published by Minumsa publishing company
in a collection entitled The
Galaxy Hung on a Wall.

total of 70 million won to them. High school students SO Eun-Hae in the poetry
section and PARK Hye-Jeong in the fiction section were awarded the Grand Prize and
received a scholarship for two years in University. The Foundation also selected
four students for the Gold Prize, ten for the Silver Prize, and twenty four
for
the Bronze Prize. These students received a scholarship of five hundred thousand
won to one million won each.

the Bronze Prize. These students received a scholarship of five hundred thousand
won to one million won each.
